Doctor Update – We may have spoken too soon.

Saw Dr. M Wednesday.  We talked about IVF and doing it in Cz. and (what I feared) he doesn’t think it’s a good idea. Though we were really discouraged, he did have some valid points.  He suggested we at least go for a consult to Dr. W in Jacksonville before we make any final decisions.

Whatever the decision, we’re going to do it soon.  Maybe even sooner than March/April if things change. We got a price quote from Jax for just over 10,000 – not as much as we expected, but still about 2,000 more than Cz.  However, we are more concerned with quality of service and care than the price and we are definitely going to weigh all the options.

I’ve started to make a list of the pros/cons of both places and right now, I’m starting to see that though we’d “miss” a European vacation, it’s not about that and it may be best for us to do it in Jacksonville.  So, if you have any pros/cons to add, please feel free.  We’d be interested in everyone’s opinion.

More to come.

Doctor’s Appointment #1

I’m headed over to see Dr. M in about 3 hours.  It will be my first real visit since my last surgery.  I’m going to spend a  little time talking to him about our plans to head overseas next year for IVF.  I’m hoping he’ll be supportive of the idea and help us to prepare for it the best we can.  I’m fairly sure he’ll tell me to “shape up”, but I’m already working on that in my Fitness Walking and Jogging class, so I’ve got a head start on his advice!

On the downside, since Jay quit the City back in December we haven’t had any health insurance, so there will be no break on the cost of my USA doctor.  Luckily, I have an amazing set of parents who are helping us the best they can, and hopefully I will either a) find some reasonable health insurance soon, or b) come back from Cz. preggo & take advantage of our governments wonderful Medicaid insurance for awhile before I have to shell out a huge insurance payment!  Personally I’m hoping for B!

I’ll update later with how the appointment went!

The Contract Is On Its Way

Today marks the first day of real progress in our IVF adventure. IVF Vacation sent us the contract this week, and I sent it on its way back to them today with our deposit check. Now it’s really starting to feel like something is actually going to come of all the talk we’ve been doing over the past several months.

Next step is to set a date for our trip. Hopefully we can work it out for the last week March or first week of April for our departure. It will be a 3-4 week trip (we haven’t quite nailed down what we want to do with the 4th week yet, but I’ll be done with the IVF procedure after 21 days). We’re really working hard to get all our plans in order for the coming months. There’s a lot of planning and preparation from the medical side of the trip and the packing side of it as well. I’ll be doing a lot of mental preparation as well, I think this may be the hardest part.

This whole thing is starting to wreck my nerves. I feel like my emotional roller coaster is just starting to go nuts. I never really considered all the things my brain would process for something like this. Some questions running through my mind at all hours of the day: What if I screw something up? What if we don’t come up with enough money by March? What if the procedure doesn’t work? What if it does and I’m pregnant with all 3 babies?!??!? What if we get lost in a foreign country, where we don’t speak a word of their language? The What if’s are driving me batty. I know that when I first heard about this option I really felt a peace that it was the right thing for us to do. I just have to pray and trust that things will go as planned, and hopefully we come home with a bundle (or two…or even three) in the oven.

The Journey Continues!
